Curiosity in the City: Units of Study

Exploring our city, one month — and one theme — at a time.

Curiosity in the City is a yearlong journey designed to connect children’s natural curiosity with the living classroom all around them — our city. Each month, we dive into a new theme that celebrates culture, community, and wonder, inviting learners to see how history, art, science, and everyday life intertwine.

From snowflakes to storytelling, from innovators to activists, each unit sparks hands-on exploration, meaningful reflection, and joyful discovery. Rooted in Chicago but adaptable anywhere, these units help children build empathy, civic awareness, and a sense of place — one adventure at a time.
